Supporting infant breastfeeding in Gaza

Gina is an alliance working with Gazan mothers, doctors, midwives and nurses to provide newborns with expert breastfeeding support

How it all started

Reem, our founder, is an Emergency Medical consultant in Scotland and a mother of two young daughters. Her late father grew up in a refugee camp in Gaza, his stories of growing up battling poverty and oppression were etched into her memory. The latest conflict pushed her to do something to help.

A GoFundMe Page

In Jan 2024, Reem started a GoFundMe page to try to support breastfeeding mothers in Gaza. It sparked the flame leading to £60,000 donated.

Support through volunteers

We have come together as 6 volunteers in the UK supporting 40 Gazan-based healthcare workers who provide breastfeeding support.

Forming an alliance

The Gaza Infant Nutrition Alliance (GINA) has been formalised to establish and maintain mother’s milk supply despite the raging war.

Our Work

In an ongoing conflict in Gaza, Gina is working to establish a continuous milk supply and education for breastfeeding support where it needed most

Training (Coming Soon)

  • We are planning our first training workshop in the Middle Area using a combination of digital material, printed booklets designed specifically for Gaza.
  • Group discussions through WhatsApp

Lactation Support (In Progress)

  • We are in the process of opening a Lactation Tent attached to a Primary Care Tent in Al-Mawasi, led by an enthusiastic midwife and supported remotely by one of our certified lactation consultants

You can help us answer the cries of innocent babies in Gaza. Together we can reach out and support breastfeeding mothers.
